Biography

G. Willow Wilson holds a unique place in the history of American comic books as the creator of Kamala Khan, the first Muslim superhero to headline a solo series at Marvel Comics. A convert to Islam, novelist (Alif the Unseen, 2012) and journalist who lived in Cairo, Wilson brings an unprecedented cultural and narrative perspective to the medium. Her unconventional background infuses each of her creations with an authenticity that has deeply resonated with readers hungry for representation.

Ms. Marvel #1 (February 2014), co-created with editors Sana Amanat and G. Willow Wilson, with art by Adrian Alphona, is a landmark moment in modern comics. The issue went through multiple printings and its value on the secondary market has continued to climb, especially following the announcement and release of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel (2022) and the character's appearance in The Marvels (2023). In CGC 9.8, this issue routinely fetches four-figure prices, making it one of the most valuable modern-era comics on the market.

Wilson's run on Ms. Marvel spans from 2014 to 2019, covering several volumes and more than 60 issues in total. The story of Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager from Jersey City who discovers her Inhuman powers, won the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story in 2015 — a first for an ongoing superhero comic book series. Wilson also wrote a well-regarded run on Wonder Woman (#58–69, 20182019) at DC, demonstrating her ability to handle iconic characters.

For collectors, G. Willow Wilson's key issues rank among the most strategically important of the modern era. Ms. Marvel #1 (2014) is an absolute must-own, comparable in historical significance to Miles Morales: Ultimate Fallout #4. Key issues from her run — notably the first appearances of supporting characters such as Red Dagger — are also closely watched. Her collaboration with Adrian Alphona produced an instantly recognizable visual style. Wilson proved that diversity and inclusivity could drive massive commercial and critical success, paving the way for a new era in American comics.
