Major Villains: First Appearances

Eric Killmonger

First appearance in Jungle Action #6(September 1973). T'Challa's nemesis became a major collector's item after the 2018 film. Good condition examples fetched anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. The run Panther's Rage(Jungle Action #6-24) remains the founding arc.

Ulysses Klaue (Klaw)

First appearance in Fantastic Four #53(August 1966), alongside T'Challa himself. Klaw represents the colonial external threat and his Silver Age appearances remain highly sought after.

Achebe and Man-Ape

Achebe begins in Black Panther #3 vol. 3(1999, run Priest) while Man-Ape (M'Baku) appears in Avengers #62(1969). The success of M'Baku in the cinema revived interest in this Bronze Age issue.

Supporting Cast: Key Characters

Shuri

First appearance in Black Panther #2 vol. 4(May 2005). T'Challa's sister took on the mantle of Black Panther (Doomwar/BP vol. 5) and got her own series in 2018 (12 issues). She is one of the most highly rated female Marvel characters of the modern era.

Okoye and the Dora Milaje

The Dora Milaje appear in Black Panther #1 vol. 3(November 1998, Christopher Priest). Okoye and Nakia are introduced in this same issue. Their development culminates in World of Wakanda(2016-2017, Roxane Gay).

Everett K. Ross

First appearance in Ka-Zar #17(1998), then central character in the Priest run. An undervalued supporting role that is gaining recognition.
