Why your Daredevil collection is more complex than it looks

๐Ÿ˜ˆ

6 major runs in one continuous series

Miller (#158-191 then #226-233), Nocenti (#236-291), Chichester, Bendis (#26-81), Brubaker (#82-119), Waid (#1-36)... Every run has its own feel. Without an app, it's impossible to see where each era begins in your ownership list.

๐Ÿ”‘

DD #1 and key issues exploding in value

Daredevil #1 (1964, 1st app DD) is worth $1,000 to $20,000 depending on condition. DD #168 (1st app Elektra, Frank Miller) is worth $100 to $800. But do you know their value in your collection?

๐Ÿ”„

The confusing numbering of the '90s-2000s

The Daredevil series ended at #380 in 1998, Heroes Reborn relaunched everything, then Bendis had his own numbering... Without a dedicated tool, navigating the DD timeline is a headache.

๐Ÿ“š

Shadowland and Civil War crossovers

Shadowland (2010) touches DD and several mini-series. Dark Reign, Fear Itself, Marvel events regularly affect Daredevil. How do you track your progress through these events in a spreadsheet?

Frequently Asked Questions โ€” Daredevil Collection

Frank Miller's two-part run is the definitive reference: issues #158-191 (1979-1983) and #226-233 (Born Again, 1986). To start, Born Again (#226-233) is the most accessible in terms of storytelling and can be found at a reasonable price ($10โ€“$50 per issue). The Bendis run (#26-81 of vol.2) is also excellent and still accessible ($3โ€“$20 per issue). My Comics Collection imports each run separately.
Daredevil #168 (January 1981) is the first appearance of Elektra, created by Frank Miller. It's one of the most sought-after Bronze Age key issues. In Near Mint condition, it's worth between $300 and $800. In Very Fine, between $150 and $400. Its value has increased with the announcement of MCU Daredevil/Elektra projects. My Comics Collection lists this issue with its key issue badge.
Daredevil vol.1 (1964-1998) has 380 issues and covers the Silver/Bronze/Copper Age eras. It's the original series with the foundational runs (Miller, Nocenti). Daredevil vol.2 (1998-2011) begins under Kevin Smith and includes the legendary Brian Michael Bendis run (#26-81) and Ed Brubaker run (#82-119). Vol.2 issues are cheaper on average. My Comics Collection clearly distinguishes between the two volumes.
Shadowland (2010) is an event centered on Daredevil. The main mini-series (5 issues) is essential, but the event also ties into Daredevil #508-512, and several spin-off mini-series (Shadowland: Power Man, Spider-Man, Bullseye, Moon Knight...). For a complete Daredevil collection including Shadowland, you'll need to import multiple series. My Comics Collection lets you manage each series separately.
The Andy Diggle run (Daredevil #501-512, 2009-2010) leads directly into Shadowland. It's still very affordable ($2โ€“$10 per issue) and represents an important transition between the Ed Brubaker run and Shadowland. If you're collecting the modern era of Daredevil, this run is an essential piece of the puzzle. My Comics Collection lets you track your progress through this run.
Both issues are major key issues from the Miller run. DD #168 (1st app Elektra) is generally slightly less expensive than DD #181 (death of Elektra, iconic Miller artwork). DD #181 in Near Mint is worth between $400 and $900. The death of Elektra scene is one of the most famous in comics history. My Comics Collection badges both as key issues with their value estimates.
