Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta is published in France by Urban Comics, in the DC Absolute collection, in three volumes so far: volume 1 (US #1 to 6) on May 30, 2025, volume 2 (#7 to 14) on February 13, 2026, volume 3 on September 25, 2026. Start with the standard volume 1 to read. The collector box set of November 13, 2026 is only for those who want all three volumes in limited editions.
A Batman with no fortune, no manor, no wealthy butler: the pitch of Absolute Batman fits in a sentence, and that is what made it popular within a few weeks. In France, the series arrives as bound volumes from a single publisher, with a schedule now dense enough to get lost in: standard editions, side editions, special issues, a box set. This guide sorts them in order and says each time what is inside.
As always in this guide, only verified information (creators, issue numbers, dates) is stated as fact; the analysis is our own, with no reproduction of protected artwork or dialogue.
The US original in brief
Absolute Batman was launched in the United States on October 9, 2024 by DC Comics. Scott Snyder writes, Nick Dragotta draws, Frank Martin colors the pages. The series is the first title of a line that includes several series on the same principle: a separate continuity, apart from the usual DC universe, where each hero is deprived of something that made life easier. The guide devoted to the Absolute line details this mechanism; let us simply note here that this series requires no prerequisites.
For Batman, the deprivation is fortune. The French publisher's presentation speaks of a Bruce Wayne who "starts from nothing", the son of a public school teacher, with no manor and no butler, who lives in Gotham's disadvantaged neighborhoods and takes on Black Mask's gang. This Batman is described as both cerebral and heavily muscled. The series continues to be published: issue 25 is announced for October 28, 2026, so the US original is several issues ahead of the French edition.
The French editions, in order of release
All the editions below are published by Urban Comics, in the DC Absolute collection, and the translation of the three volumes is signed by Jérôme Wicky. We rely on the publisher's records, which we cross-checked with other sources when possible.
The black-and-white preview (March 7, 2025)
Before the first volume, Urban published "DC Absolute Collector 2025", a special edition reserved for a collective of comic bookstores, released on March 7, 2025. It runs 128 pages and gathers, in black and white, the first issue of each of the three series launched: Absolute Batman, Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman. The translation is shared among Benjamin Rivière, Laurent Queyssi and Jérôme Wicky. It is not a volume of the series: it is a preview object, to be shelved separately.
Volume 1: three editions in May 2025
Volume 1 gathers US issues 1 to 6, 184 pages, and comes in three versions. The standard version and the so-called Pulp's edition come out on May 30, 2025. The black-and-white edition, presented as limited by the publisher, carries the date of May 23, 2025 on its record, a week before the other two. The records do not detail what distinguishes the Pulp's edition from the standard one: do not presume a special cover or extra content, and check the copy before buying.
The publisher presents this May 30 launch as that of three series at once, with Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman: the first three volumes reach bookstores together.
Volume 2: February 2026
Volume 2 appears on February 13, 2026, at 248 pages, and collects US issues 7 to 14. The artwork is signed by Marcos Martin and Nick Dragotta. The plot follows Bruce Wayne investigating Ark M, a complex populated by dangerous creatures, and brings Bane onto the scene. A Pulp's edition exists for this volume; no black-and-white edition is listed for it.
Volume 3: September 2026
Volume 3 comes out on September 25, 2026, at 176 pages. According to the publisher's record, it contains Absolute Batman: Ark M Special #1, issues 15 to 18 of the series and Absolute Evil #1. The artwork is signed by Eric Canete and Nick Dragotta. The summary focuses on Pamela Isley, who escapes from Ark M and seeks revenge, while the Joker's shadow spreads over Gotham. No alternative edition is listed for this volume.
A useful note: other sources mention a 2025 Absolute Batman annual in the same set. The box set cited below includes it in its contents, but the volume 3 record does not mention it. Sources therefore diverge on its place: check the table of contents of the volume in hand rather than relying on a list.
The collector box set (November 13, 2026)
Urban announces for November 13, 2026 a collector box set limited to 1,500 copies. It gathers the first three volumes in limited editions exclusive to the box set, a sketchbook by Nick Dragotta, an envelope of six ex-libris prints, and an Absolute Batman paintable figure made with Monolith. The US content covered is announced as issues 1 to 18, Ark M Special #1, the 2025 annual and Absolute Evil #1. The publisher's records give no page count for the set. For a reader, the box set adds no story beyond the three volumes; it is a collector's object.
The publisher shows no detailed schedule for what follows. The series page indicates three volumes available out of six, with no details on the other three.

You want to read the series. Take the standard volume 1, then continue through the volumes in order. The series reads as one block: volume 1 introduces the universe and the Batman, volume 2 opens the Ark M plot, volume 3 extends it with Pamela Isley. The volumes are read one after another, in order.
You collect limited editions. The black-and-white edition of volume 1 and the box set are the two objects designed for that. The March 2025 preview, reserved for a network of bookstores, is in the same spirit. Set your priorities before buying: these editions are harder to find than the standard one once sold out.
You want the US original. The issues of the American series have their own logic: the guide to the key issues of the Absolute line explains which ones to look for, and the French edition does not replace that work.
You are looking for an entry point into the line. Volume 1 of Absolute Batman is an excellent start, but it is not the only one. Our Absolute Superman reading guide offers another door, on a series from the same line.
Pitfalls and points to watch
The word "Absolute" invites confusion. Here it refers to the DC universe launched in 2024 and to Urban's DC Absolute collection. It should not be confused with other ranges of prestige volumes that carry the same word. The publisher's record specifies neither the binding nor the format of the volume: check these points before buying, and do not imagine a slipcased large format by default.
Several editions, same pages. The standard, Pulp's and B&W editions of volume 1 carry the same 184 pages of content. A listing that says "volume 1" does not say which one it offers: ask for the specific edition, or find the EAN on the copy.
Offset dates. The B&W edition of volume 1 precedes the standard by a week on the record. When two sources give different dates for "volume 1", both may be right: they describe two editions.
Diverging contents. As with volume 3 and the annual, the exact makeup of a volume can differ between sources. The publisher's record is authoritative, and the table of contents printed in the volume is authoritative over the record.
A series that moves forward. American announcements mention a pause of the series in December 2026 and a return at issue 27 in February 2027; our article on this pause details the schedule. The French schedule follows with a delay: a volume is only announced once the episodes have been published.
What these editions are worth in a collection
It is too early to talk about market value: the series is two years old and the volumes are all under eighteen months old. The logic of value therefore rests on engineered scarcity, not on the passage of time.
Three elements count. First, the announced limited print run: the box set at 1,500 copies and the B&W edition presented as limited are designed to be fewer in number than the standard. Second, completeness: a box set that contains the first three volumes in exclusive editions cannot be reassembled by buying the volumes separately. Finally, condition: it is the condition of the spine and corners that differentiates copies at purchase.
To gauge the level of a limited edition, the method stays comparative: note several listings of the same edition, discard the extremes, set them against a standard edition of the same volume, then compute the ratio. It is this ratio, more than the raw figure, that tells you whether the market actually values the limitation. Keep the proof of the edition (EAN, print run statement): it makes the difference at resale.
Frequently asked questions
Urban Comics, in its DC Absolute collection. Volume 1 came out on May 30, 2025, volume 2 on February 13, 2026 and volume 3 on September 25, 2026. The translation of the three volumes is signed by Jérôme Wicky. A collector box set of the first three volumes is announced for November 13, 2026.
Volume 1 collects US issues 1 to 6, volume 2 issues 7 to 14. Volume 3 gathers Ark M Special #1, issues 15 to 18 and Absolute Evil #1, according to the publisher's record. Beyond issue 18, no French volume is yet announced.
For reading, the standard is enough: the three editions carry the same 184 pages. The black-and-white edition, presented as limited, is aimed at collectors. The records do not detail what distinguishes the Pulp's from the standard, so do not choose it for an advantage that nothing documents.
No, no prior reading is required: each series in the line starts at its issue 1. Absolute Batman, Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman have been published in France by Urban Comics since May 2025. Choose according to the character that appeals to you most, not according to an imposed order.
The French edition stops at issue 18 of the series, plus Ark M Special and Absolute Evil #1, while the US original announces issue 25 for October 28, 2026. The gap is therefore several issues, and the French continuation will depend on the publisher's schedule, which has published no dates beyond the box set.
