Avengers: Secret Wars (2027): what is confirmed and the comics behind the film

The film has not been released: this article therefore sticks strictly to the officially announced information and focuses on the original comics, the only ones that can really be analyzed today.

What Marvel Studios Officially Announced

The starting point should be clear: to date, Marvel Studios has not communicated a synopsis or plot for Avengers: Secret Wars. What is established is contained in a few lines. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who return to the franchise after Infinity War and Endgame. Its release is set for December 17, 2027, after a postponement from an initial date in May of the same year, justified by the scale taken by the project. Robert Downey Jr. plays Victor von Doom – a return of the actor in an antagonist role, publicly announced by the studio. Secret Wars 2015: Battleworld and Emperor Doom

The second Secret Wars, published in 2015 under the pen of Jonathan Hickman and the brush of Esad Ribić, is of a completely different nature. It concludes an architecture built over several years of scenarios in Avengers and New Avengers, around the concept of incursions: two parallel universes collide and one must be destroyed for the other to survive. The process spirals out of control until the entire Marvel multiverse collapses. Fatalis is less of a villain than a demiurge: one who has saved something from nothingness and demands, in return, absolute submission. Hickman's series is also one of the most ambitious ever published by Marvel, dense, demanding, and served by Ribić's boards which are among the most beautiful of the decade. For the reader who wants to prepare for 2027, this is undoubtedly priority reading - especially since the choice of entrusting Fatalis to Robert Downey Jr. suggests a character called to carry the film, as he carried the event of 2015.

Two events, one title: the challenge of adaptation
