Two honest takeaways follow:

• Grade drives most of the value. Between a CGC 6.0 (~$1,250) and a CGC 9.8 (~$16,000), the multiple exceeds 12×. On a key like #129, half a grade point can mean thousands of dollars.
• The market moves. The 2022 record of $57,000 didn't hold: the 9.8 fair value is now estimated around $16,000. A record is not a going rate — it's a one-off ceiling, never to be confused with today's value.

Should you grade your copy? The practical call

• Assess condition before paying for grading. Grading only pays off if your copy targets high grade — that's where the spread covers the fees. A copy that would cap at 4.0-6.0 is still valuable, but the cost/upside trade-off is less clear-cut.
• Watch for restoration and page color. CGC penalizes restoration (purple label) and rewards white pages. A trim, a tape repair or browned pages can cut value by a multiple.
• Other Punisher keys rarely warrant grading. Amazing Spider-Man #135 (2nd appearance, ~€156 eBay median, 100 listings) or the solo series (1986 mini, 1987 vol.2, Punisher War Journal 1988) stay far more affordable and less suited to costly grading, barring an exceptional copy.
